This female Yellow Garden Spider (Argiope aurantia) is also called the Golden Orb-Weaver or the 'Zipper' spider due to the interesting pattern (stabilimenta) she weaves into the center of her web. Harmless to humans, these brightly colored and often spectacularly large spiders are found throughout most of the world and quite beneficial because they eat numerous other insect pests.
